The controversies pertaining to the social-media giant Facebook has made the Chief Executive, Mark Zuckerberg to push against calls for him to step down as chairman as he said he hoped to continue working with his long-time chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg.

Zuckerberg stated this in an interview with CNN saying stepping down as chairman in the near term is “not the plan” after some big shareholders aimed at pushing him out of that role following a string of management missteps.

Relating to this issue, Dow Jones Newswires said that in the Facebook’s latest proxy, Zuckerberg’s share of voting power among Facebook investors was 59.9%, meaning shareholders can’t force him out.

“I hope that we work together for decades more to come,” Zuckerberg said as he called Sandberg an “important partner” who is overseeing Facebook’s efforts to tackle some of the biggest problems the company is facing.

It could be recalled that the Facebook chairman has strained relations with Sandberg in recent months as he has adopted a tougher and more assertive management style.

They came under pressure as regards Facebook’s slow response to uncovering evidence of Russian manipulation during the U.S. presidential race in 2016 and stopping the spread of misinformation on the platform, they have also faced serious investigation for Facebook’s privacy practices and its role in inflaming violence in countries like Myanmar.

In the interview, Zuckerberg repeatedly made points that Facebook should have been more apt to detect signs of the Russian manipulation.
