The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has recommended the suspension of the Emir of Kano, Muhammmadu Sanusi II.

According to Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mr Muhuyi Magaji, the recommendation followed an allegation of misappropriation of the emirate’s funds and obstruction of the ongoing investigation.

Magaji on Tuesday said that it was necessary for the emir to be suspended, in order for the investigation to proceed.

He explained that the recommendation was based on overwhelming evidence of the alleged involvement of the traditional ruler in illegal spending of the emirate’s funds.

The executive chairman revealed that a request has since been submitted to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, copied to the Office of the Governor and all other relevant authorities.

The commission has been investigating the emir over allegations of unnecessary spending of emirate’s funds to the sum of over four billion naira.

However, a source close to the traditional ruler said that the Emirate Council would not comment on the matter since it was already in court.
